Unidentified baby honored with special funeral in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Four months after an unidentified baby was found in a Tallahassee dumpster, residents gathered Wednesday for a special funeral to remember her.

The infant still hasn't been identified so, she was given the name "Baby Jane Doe." And even though we don't know what family she belonged to, the room was full of people who wanted to be there.

Dozens of residents paid their respects at a closed casket ceremony. It was short, just under 20 minutes, but people took their time to go up to her casket.

It was decorated with pink flowers and stuffed animals to remember a baby girl who was found in a dumpster at the Rolling Hills Apartments in February.

"It speaks volumes for Tallahassee that so many people who live here truly care in their hearts about other people and would do anything they could to help people and if we had known this baby needed help before she died, I'm sure people would've come forth to help her," said Tallahassee resident Betty Piephoff.

"Baby Jane Doe" was buried at Serenity Gardens in Tallahassee and someone came Tuesday to bring a pink dress for her to wear.
