VALDOSTA, Ga., (WTXL) -- An important transportation funding bill is passed by Georgia Lawmakers.
The Valdosta Chamber’s Government Affairs Council announces House Bill 170, a transportation funding bill, has been passed by lawmakers.
They say it passed without the elimination of Georgia’s Sales Tax Holiday.
According to the Council, the additional funds will come primarily from an increase in the excise tax on motor fuels beginning July 1, 2015.
They say Georgia will raise $900 million to ensure the safety and mobility of all motorists who travel on state roads and highways.
The Bill was approved by lawmakers late Tuesday night and now goes to Governor Nathan Deal for his signature.
The council is pleased with the decision saying, in a statement, “The growth of Georgia is important to us and we want to thank everyone who has come to an agreement that will endure for years to come!”
