TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee Police Department is warning residents about a scam where suspects, who claim to be officers, are calling victims demanding money to avoid arrest.
TPD says they are receiving multiple calls from people about a scam where suspects are claiming to be an officer.
TPD states the suspects sometimes actually has the name of some of the officers and the victims may recognize those names.
According to TPD, the suspects will tell you to provide money in the form of gift cards or credit cards to avoid arrest.
TPD says the suspects are forceful about getting victims to pay and some people have lost a lot of money to avoid "legal issues" or arrest.
TPD states they will never call you demanding money.
They say if you receive a call like this, hang up immediately and call their Financial Crimes Unit at 850-891-4200.
