TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee woman is accused of participating in a bank fraud scheme involving stolen checks from mailboxes all over Tallahassee.
Brittany K. Fullwood, 23, was booked into the Leon County Detention Center on Wednesday and remained there Thursday on $15,000 bond.
She is charged with one count of defrauding a financial institution, two counts of attempting to impersonate another person without consent, and grand theft of $300 or more but less than $5,000.
Fullwood cooperated with Akeem Jones in the scheme, according to a court document.
Jones, 23, who faces more than 40 charges for bank fraud, was taken into custody in July 2017. He remained in the Leon County Detention Center on Thursday.
Investigators said the scheme involved the depositing of stolen and altered checks, which came from all over Tallahassee, into the victims' accounts without consent.
Withdrawals were then made for the maximum amount of money allowed.
Court documents say that surveillance video shows a man resembling Jones and a woman resembling Fullwood depositing and withdrawing checks at different banks from April 21, 2017, to May 2, 2017.
The scheme involved branches of Bank of America, First Commerce Credit Union, Capital City Bank.
The Tallahassee Police Department investigator said that three checks were deposited into an account belonging to Fullwood via ATM. Two checks were altered and made payable to Fullwood before they were deposited.
Once the checks were deposited, Jones immediately withdrew the money, the investigator wrote.
