Tallahassee, FL (WTXL) -- It's no April Fool's joke, the city says it is reducing rates starting April 1st.
Due to lower fuel costs, the city says it is able to pass along the savings to consumers.
According to the city, a typical residential electric bill will decrease by 2.6 percent, and a typical residential natural gas bill will decrease by 4.7 percent. When compared to the utility rates in 2008, rates are 31 percent lower, saving customers approximately $600 per year and $150 million community wide.
“With the hot summer months ahead, residential and commercial customers will appreciate the significant financial savings that come with reduced electric and natural gas rates,” Mayor Andrew Gillum said. “The City’s residential electric rates remain below the state average, and with this rate reduction, our local small businesses will now enjoy the lowest rate in Florida.”
