LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A man is facing multiple charges after a police chase early Sunday morning in Leon County.
Denzel Jones, 27, was arrested by Florida Highway Patrol on Sunday.
According to FHP, at about 1:32 a.m. Sunday, troopers saw Jones driving recklessly on Mahan Drive in front of the Troop H FHP Tallahassee Station.
FHP states Jones stopped briefly when troopers initiated a traffic stop, but then drove off, causing troopers to pursue his car.
FHP says the route of the pursuit included Hillcrest Street, Alachua Avenue, North Magnolia Drive, U.S. 90, North Blairstone Road, East Park Avenue, Cherry Laurel Street, and Terrace Street.
Troopers did a pursuit intervention technique (PIT maneuver) on Jones' car trying to get him to stop, but he was able to continue driving.
Troopers did a second PIT maneuver on Jones' car, this time causing his car to stop.
Jones then began to run into a wooded area near Hillcrest St. and U.S. 90, before a trooper was able to tase him, bringing the chase to an end.
FHP says they found over 20 grams of marijuana, five Xanax pills, a tan colored unknown powder, drug paraphernalia, and cash inside the car.
Jones is being charged with:
- Reckless driving
- possession of a controlled substance without a prescription
- probation violation
- possession of marijuana over 20 grams
- intent to sell marijuana
- possession of paraphernalia
- flee and elude police officer
- obstruction without violence
