TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man has been arrested after police say he broke into 11 vehicles in less than 24 hours.
Jefferson Maquillon, 22, has been charged with 11 counts of burglary along with multiple counts of petit theft.
According to court documents, Maquillon was initially arrested on Feb. 4 after Tallahassee Police were called to Elder Care Services on West Tennessee Street for an unrelated disturbance.
When they arrived, officers were flagged down by the manager at Drive It who said Maquillon had taken a key out of a vehicle on the lot. The manager told investigators that he saw Maquillon walking around the lot and spotted him going inside a customer's vehicle.
Not long after, documents say officers spotted Maquillon walking across West Tennessee Street and was detained. When he was searched, investigators found the key in question in his pocket.
Further investigation revealed that Maquillon had broken into five more vehicles at Drive It, according to court documents, and stole the owner's manuals from each of the cars.
Officers also discovered that Maquillon was responsible for two additional break-ins at Cone Distributors on West Tharpe Street and another at Ogelsby Construction Inc. on Peddie Drive, where he "rummaged" through the cars and stole the vehicle registrations out of each.
Based on the evidence, Maquillon was arrested and charged with nine counts of auto burglary, nine counts of petit theft and one count of trespassing.
Later that same day, Leon County deputies were called to Five Star Limousine on Garber Drive for a car burglary that occurred on Feb. 3.
The owner of the company told investigators that a man was caught by security cameras breaking into two buses and removing items.
Two weeks later, investigators were able to identify Maquillon as the suspect in these break-ins. Based on the evidence, he was charged with two more counts of burglary and petit theft.
As of Tuesday, Maquillon remains in jail on a $58,250 bond.
