TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Sustainable Tallahassee is reaching out to local restaurants and vendors to give them tips on how they can serve customers while saving the environment.

The goal of the meeting was to focus on waste and recovery to teach restaurants about finding ways to use less straws and other materials in their food practices which affect the environment.

Executive Director Jim Davis says it's all about getting local food business to think green.

"We're hoping they can say 'we can do that.' If you talk to people that are already doing that that are also already greening," said Davis. "Hopefully by doing that they can say 'I can have someone to talk to about that.' We hope they can say 'yeah that's something I can do.'"

Sustainable Tallahassee also unveiled their new Food Rescue app. The app connects people and businesses who have excess food to those who have little access to food.
