TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Thursday is "Dump the Pump Day" and across the country, organizations are encouraging drivers to leave their cars at home.
To help out, StarMetro is offering free rides for all of their regularly scheduled routes.
The City of Tallahassee is also providing refreshments for participants at C.K. Steele Plaza.
This is the 13th year for "Dump the Pump Day" and Tallahassee is hoping to use the day to highlight the other benefits that come with taking the bus.
"I think people do need to know there's other options a lot of times people are scared to ride the bus," said Lavonia Jones, Public Information Officer for City of Tallahassee. "They don't know where the stops are or what to do, so this is a good trial run to get people use to it."
The American Public Transportation Association started the event after gas prices across the nation soared in 2006.
The association wants to continue to highlight how much money you can save by taking the bus instead of driving.
