LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - One South Georgia school district is working to improve the safety of its students, faculty and staff by increasing security measures.
Lowndes County Schools Superintendent Wes Taylor announced the results of a safety and security review.
Security stays at the top of school districts priority lists, as child safety is one of the top priorities of any learning institution.
And in light of many school shootings in the past few years, LCSD is working to improve the safety of its students.
One of the measures will be locking all doors from the outside at all times.
When asked if this would create a fire hazard, Taylor says that the doors won't be locked to those inside.
But what if a student is caught out in the hall during a lockdown where an intruder has entered and can't get in?
Taylor says protocols for exiting the building will be in place for those who have the ability to flee.
Student resource officers will be increased at the school, especially Lowndes High with the school remodeling set to take place soon.
Taylor says identifying visitors will be more thorough.
In the past few years, Lowndes County is working to improve the safety of its students.
Taylor says once construction starts, they will also be mandated to have security measures in place to keep track all employees when near school grounds.
