TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Superintendent of Leon Schools Rocky Hanna has been busy these last several weeks with his 'Superintendent Work Days' as a way to better connect with Leon County faculty, students, and parents.
Hanna greeted and talked to children Thursday afternoon as they left Bond Elementary School, headed home after another school day.
While Hanna was helping children cross the street, he realized how much the students and their parents love and rely on their crossing guards.
While the superintendent enjoys interacting with the children, he wants to use these work days to better understand and connect with Leon County staff members.
"Hopefully they can feel that I'm not just some guy behind a desk and I'm not just some politician asking for a vote," said Hanna. "I want to get out and experience what the life's like in the daily activities of some of our people, to see how I can support them as they help our children everyday."
Here's another thing the superintendent learned as he worked the crossing at Kate Sullivan Elementary School Thursday morning: He says some drivers do not slow down for the children!
WTXL viewers will remember that's the same complaint we heard from parents last fall. You can still watch our series on the worst school drop-off zones here.
