TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee organization known for helping victims of domestic violence opened it's new space Friday.
Refuge House celebrated their new office Friday, which is at the Leon County Courthouse.
According to the organization, working inside the courthouse allows victims to visit them and seek assistance filing injunctions for protective orders for things like sexual abuse and domestic or dating violence.
The team serves more than 1,000 people per year and they will now also have a full time attorney on site to help assist those in need.
"Through this expansion, they were able to receive a grant to hire two full time attorneys, so right now they have someone," said Gwendolyn Marshall, Clerk of Leon County Circuit Court. "If a citizen has a domestic violence issue they can come in and get their court fillings looked over. We just want to make sure our community or citizens have the resources available to meet those needs."
The group has held a small space inside the courthouse since the early 90's, but the executive directors say that with an actual office space, they can provide more resources at the courthouse to help even more people out.
