QUINCY, Fla. (WTXL) - Part of staying safe during the holiday season means not making yourself an easy target for burglars.

Quincy police say you shouldn't leave christmas presents or anything valuable in plain sight.

Once you open those presents, don't put the empty boxes on the curb.

"Be mindful of what you do put out there on the street," said Captain Robert Mixon. "If you put the 55 inch television (box) from whatever local retailer, that is an indication that the house has a 55 inch and unfortunately you do have some of the burglars that will curb shop, so to speak.

He said you may want to hold some of those items or find another way to dispose of them, like cutting up the boxes.
