TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Dozens of people gathered at the Florida Capitol to speak out against militarism and gun violence.

This event is apart of the Poor People's Campaign: 40 Days of Moral Action which is being held in 30 states across the country.

Members, veterans and others shared testimonies about how war and gun violence has impacted their lives.

"Our goal is to break through the tweets. Our goal is to get more folks in our country acknowledging that 140 million people are living in poverty in our country," said Rachael Reichenbach, who works with the campaign. "That's more that's half of our population."

The 40 Days of Moral Action will go on through June 23.

The Poor People's Campaign for Florida will back at the Capitol next week to lobby about healthcare and protecting the environment.
