TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Patrick Murphy made a surprise appearance in Tallahassee on Sunday, alongside mayor Andrew Gillum and other political dignitaries.

Murphy stopped by the "Souls to the Polls" event at the B.L. Perry library that encourages members of the Tallahassee community to vote early.

This was representative Murphy's first time in Tallahassee since august. Murphy says he attended today's voter participation event because he believes that it's important for citizens in Florida to take advantage of early voting to make sure their voices are heard.

The 'Souls to the Polls' event was hosted by Bethel AME Church. Members believe that this is a fun way to bring the community together while exercising their right to vote.

The church will hold another voting event on November 6th.
