MACON, GA (WGXA/CNN) - A couple from Macon, GA, is facing charges after giving their son marijuana not medical cannabis which is legal in Georgia.
Suzeanna Brill provided and allowed her son to use marijuana to help treat his seizures, according to the incident report.
Matthew and Suzeanna Brill are now facing charges for reckless conduct.
The Division of Family and Children's Services took their son on April 20.
"We broke the law and we accept those consequences but there is no reason for my son to be locked up like a criminal," said Matthew Brill, the child's father.
The couple said their 15-year-old son David loved his bike, spending time with his family and his service dog.
"My child no longer has that, he no longer has hope," Suzeanna Brill.
The Brills' son was taken away by the Department of Family and Children's Services after they admitted to giving him marijuana.
They said it helped with his seizures.
"We look at our child in a ball in the middle of the floor unable to do anything but their entire body is convulsing and tensed up and you have to pick your child up carry them to your vehicle because you live 45 minutes away from help. I hope no parent ever has to do that," said Suzeanna Brill.
The Brills said before that they had tried everything doctors prescribed.
But the Brills said marijuana was the only thing they found that worked.
"There's no words to describe the hopelessness," said Suzeanna Brill.
Twiggs County Sheriff Darren Mitchum said his deputies’ hands were tied when they issued warrants for the Brills' arrest.
"The fact is as of today, marijuana is not legal in the state of Georgia," Mitchum said.
Suzeanna and Matthew Brill said they haven't seen their son since and they want him back home.
"The biggest thing, I miss him. I am missing a five-year shadow," said Matthew Brill.
At this time the 15-year-old is still in custody of child services and his status depends on the outcome of the Brills' June 14 hearing.
