MEXICO BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A police chief in Florida's Panhandle has resigned amid a federal lawsuit alleging sexual discrimination within his department.

The News Herald reports (http://bit.ly/2c1S633 ) that Glenn Norris' notice of resignation cited "changes" and "decisions ... we do not agree with" for leaving the Mexico Beach Police Department.

According to the newspaper, Norris later wrote on his Facebook page that his resignation "has nothing to do with the lawsuit against the city."

The lawsuit was filed in January by two former police department employees. It says they experienced retaliation from Norris and the assistant police chief because they expressed disapproval of discrimination of other staff based on gender and sexual orientation.

Norris and the city administrator told the newspaper they couldn't comment on the pending lawsuit. The city's attorneys have denied the lawsuit's allegations.
