TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The North Florida Chapter of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association are fundraising for Florida relief efforts following Hurricane Matthew.
The proceeds they gather will be going to the Jacksonville Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Saturday, the chapter will drive to Jacksonville to assist responders with clean-up from Matthew as well as to shed light on the dangers of a hurricane before, during, and after impact.
The president of the chapter says the recent tropical activity across Florida is a wake up call for preparedness.
"After Matthew had come through, we thought that this storm could be bad and it was bad in a lot of areas in Florida... that was kind of the motivation afterwards. We're the North Florida chapter and Jacksonville is part of North Florida and we wanted to go out there in to the community and try to help out," said Matthew Reagan, president of the North Florida Chapter of the American Meteorological Society.
In November, the chapter will switch their focus to fundraising efforts for Haiti after Matthew made landfall there as a category 4 major hurricane.
