Nissan to recall more than three-million vehicles for potential airbag problems

Nissan said it will recall 3.3 million vehicles worldwide because airbags might not deploy in an accident, the website Auto News reported on Friday. The bulk of those vehicles were sold in the United States.

This is the fourth recall since 2013 to address problems with the system which identifies if an adult or child is riding in the front passenger seat. That could result in an airbag not deploying in a crash. Nissan said three injuries have been linked back to this problem, but nobody has died.

The new recall includes the 2013-2017 Nissan Altima, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, Pathfinder, Sentra, Rogue, NV200, NV Taxi, Infiniti JX35/QX60, and Q50.

It also includes the 2013-2017 Chevrolet City Express built for General Motors by Nissan.

Nissan said it is currently developing its remedy plan and will begin notifying dealers in late May.

Also, Nissan said that 622,110 Sentras - already part of the first recall - are the focus of a second recall. The front passenger seat belt bracket might become deformed if it is used to secure a child-restraint-system, like a car seat.
