TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Dozens gathered at a special fundraiser for two Gadsden County boys. The toddlers are recovering after a violent attack, from their own mother, nearly took their lives this past April.

"It's really hard. The boys are so beautiful and so innocent," said Robert Keaton, a close family friend. Sunday's fundraiser was all about brothers, Juan Pedro and Guillermo Timoteo. The goal is to raise money for ongoing medical needs, but it was also a birthday celebration for the little boys.

Juan Pedro is turning 2 and Guillermo Timoteo will be 1. "Celebration of the recovery of the two Nino-Brown boys who were so severely injured 90 days ago. The extent of the injuries was very severe. Most every person who dealt with these people, including myself, have never seen an injury of this level," said Keaton.

Just 3 months ago, the boys went into surgery with life threatening injuries after deputies say their mother stabbed them multiple times. The boys' family wanted our cameras to give them space during this celebration... but both family and the medical team that helped treat them, say their recovery has been incredible. That's why a big part of this celebration is in recognition of the first responders and surgical team.

"This very traumatic event with these two boys really touched the whole hospital at TMH. The severity of the injury brought all of all the disciplines together to care for these boys," said Dr. Stephanie Derzypolski. This story could have had a very different ending. Although the family still faces many challenges ahead, Sunday's celebration is a reminder that miracles really do happen.

Keaton says, The GoFundMe page he started has raised more than 9 thousand dollars in 2 months. "Strangers to the family have reached out across thousands of miles, across 2 countries to pray for and financially support these boys," said Keaton. An outpouring of love and support, giving this family strength to get through even their darkest hour.
