TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection to an armed carjacking in Tallahassee.
Alonzo Darity, 18, of Monticello was charged with carjacking with a firearm or weapon after being taken into custody on Sunday.
According to arrest documents, the carjacking happened on March 17 around 12:15 a.m. Victims say that four unknown men approached them, one of which was armed with a revolver styled handgun.
One victim said the men stole his shoes, wallet, cellphone, and keys to his car. The victim said two of the men took the car keys and left in the stolen 2008 Honda CRV while the other two walked away from the area.
On March 21, the car was towed from the Alliance at 400 Apartment complex located at 400 Putnam Drive. Once the tow company realized the car was stolen, they reported it to the Tallahassee Police Department.
When investigators searched the car, they found a large amount of ammo, a Michael Kohrs purse, a gun holster, a box of latex gloves, a receipt, a set of keys that included a Hyundai vehicle key, and a statement from the Bank of America that was not addressed to the owners of the vehicle.
Documents say that investigators learned that the keys were connected to a car burglary in Monticello that occurred on March 18.
In fact, reports from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office revealed there were a rash of auto burglaries in that same neighborhood where four guns, a Michael Kohrs purse and a gun holster were taken, which was consistent with the items found in the stolen Honda CRV.
After interviewing several men believed to be connected to multiple car burglaries in Thomasville, Leon County and Jefferson County, investigators searched the apartment where Darity was illegally staying on March 29.
During the search, police found two guns behind a water heater and a loaded revolver handgun inside a blue cereal box. One of the roommates who was present during the search said the weapons belonged to Darity.
According to the property manager, Darity had been staying at the apartment illegally. When the property manager kicked him out of the apartment, he found a box of rifle ammo, revolver rounds and single rifle cartridge in the room Darity was staying.
Darity was also identified by multiple witnesses as being the one who kept the stolen Honda CRV until it was towed.
When investigators were finally able to interview Darity, he denied knowing about the stolen vehicle or the guns found at the apartment. However, he confirmed that he was staying in the apartment illegally and said the ammo the property manager found belonged to him.
Court documents also note that Darity had a victim's "unique blue Versace sandals" on his feet during the interview.
Based on the investigation, Darity was arrested and booked into the Leon County Detention Facility on a $50,000 bond.
