TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - One Tallahassee organization is spending its MLK Day inspiring Tallahassee's young men.
WTXL's Jada Williams was live Monday to tell about a group giving out free haircuts and free books to young boys.
Local barber shop Creative Hairstyles, along with the Home of Reads Initiative, is hosting Barbers, Books and Boys.
It's all aimed keeping the young boys' minds sharp, while also helping them look sharp.
The Home of Reads Initiative is partnering with Creative Hairstyles to help out kids living in or near Tallahassee's southside.
The team is using King's love for reading as a way to promote literacy for kids in our community.
Dr. Makisha Cheeks commented.
"He said that the role of education is measured by true character as well as intelligence," Cheeks said. "What we're doing is encouraging our young people to think more critically and read more. We're encouraging our people to go out and be servant leaders."
Barbers, Books and Boys starts at 1 p.m. Monday at Creative Hairstyles on South Adams.
