FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida oil tycoon missing at sea for more than two years has been declared dead by a judge at the request of his widow and mother.
Guma Aguiar disappeared June 19, 2012. The 35-year-old father of four was last seen aboard his 30-foot boat as it left Port Everglades. The boat was later recovered, but there was no sign of Aguiar. Foul play is not suspected, and family members suspect he fell overboard.
The Sun Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1Hlzaur ) reports that Wednesday's death ruling ends several legal and administrative hurdles regarding Aguiar's estate.
Aguiar made a fortune in 2006 when the Texas-based energy company he ran with his uncle was sold for a reported $2.5 billion. Later, he was locked in legal battles with his uncle for several years.
