Marianna Police Say "Flakka" was Cause of Death for Man in Their Custody

MARIANNA, FL (WTXL) - Authorities have determined the cause of death for a man who died while in the Marianna Police Department's custody.

Corey Williams, 38, died after over-dosing on a drug called "Flakka", according to Marianna Police.

Authorities say they took Williams into custody because of he appeared "very intoxicated" after he was discovered at the front door of a reported burglary in progress.

While Williams was being transported to the jail, police say he was having trouble walking and was allowed to sit while officers called EMS.

Williams became unresponsive while waiting for EMS and was pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital, according to officers.

Marianna Police say, "...'Flakka' is highly addictive, and dangerous; because of its potential for adulteration by the dealer to increase profit, and varied means of consumption by the user greatly increase the potential for accidental overdose."
