MARIANNA, FL (WTXL) -- Turning 100 is amazing enough, but one centenarian and the local community around her has thousands of reasons to celebrate her.
Sister Annie Jackson has carved out a special spot in Marianna for her decades of service. It's said she delivered approximately 8,000 local babies during her years as a midwife.
Sister Jackson says being a midwife ran in her family and she was happy to continue the tradition in her home town.
She says, 100 years ago, midwifery was the only way you had your baby, that's why Sister Jackson delivered so many herself.
She says, bringing so many lives into the world filled her with joy.
"It was my life. It meant I gave everything I had to it because it was something I felt was a blessing God had given me to help me," said Sister Jackson.
Finally, Sister Jackson gets to take it easy surrounded by the lives she's touched, not just figuratively, but in many cases literally.
