JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A drug trafficker has been arrested after a traffic stop in Jackson County lead deputies to find a large amount of meth in his car.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, deputies were patrolling in the area of Alford on Saturday.

Deputies say they became suspicious of a vehicle after seeing the driver who they recognized from prior incidents. The driver was identified as 40-year-old Michael Barnes.

When deputies ran his tag, they learned that Barnes was driving with a suspended license and they immediately pulled him over for a traffic violation.

Documents say once deputies pulled Barnes over, they asked him to exit vehicle.

Deputies then patted Barnes down for safety reasons. During the pat down, they found a pill bottle with meth inside. Barnes also had a large amount of cash in his pockets.

After finding the meth, deputies decided to search the vehicle.

During the search of the vehicle deputies found the following items: Another pill bottle with meth inside, digital scales, plastic bags of marijuana, plastic bags of prescription drugs, smoking pipes with meth residue and 15 plastic bags of meth.

Documents say the total amount of meth deputies discovered was approximately 57.4 grams.

Based on the evidence, Barnes was arrested and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility. He is facing a series of charges including trafficking meth and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
