TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Texas man is behind bars in Leon County, charged with sexually assaulting a minor.

According to court documents, Christopher Thomas Smith coerced a minor between the ages of 12 and 16 into having sex with him back in May of 2015.

The documents allege that Smith had come into contact with the victim while he and his ex-wife were in Tallahassee to have a baby shower for their child.

The documents also said that there may have been an agreement between the victim and Smith for the victim to have sex with Smith for money, but evidence collected during the investigation doesn't prove that Smith had sex with the victim without her consent.

The victim told police that Smith had offered her and two other minors a ride. They accepted and Smith dropped off the victim's friends at another location.

However, the victim told police that Smith drove away with her in the car, and went to a park to "do things" for some money, which the victim said she turned down. The victim said that Smith wouldn't allow her to leave when she wanted and said that he physically controlled her and raped her despite her objections.

In an interview with police, Smith said that the victim had told him that she was 18-years-old, which two witness accounts corroborated.

The victim's friends also told police that the victim had told Smith that she "wanted to make some money," prior to them being dropped off.

Smith is facing two counts of lewd or lascivious battery.
