LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Lowndes County leaders are researching ways to make roads safer.
That could include putting down road humps that will slow drivers down.
Neighborhoods could see road calming devices placed at random spots in the street to slow people down.
County officials said they have received multiple complaints from community members about people speeding through their neighborhoods.
These speed humps are made of a poly-plastic material that is bolted into the ground.
It is not overly rough on vehicles and can be removed during times of construction.
"The real fix is for people to just slow down, in those areas that, that just won't happen," said Lowndes County Spokesperson Paige Dukes. "Lowndes County Sheriff's Office is taking a look at those areas and we've also got a traffic calming option engineering department that's available."
The city is willing to put these road humps in place for free, but it will cost the home association's or residents' money to purchase the humps.
