TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- The disturbance lurking in the southernmost Gulf of Mexico continued to gather organization Sunday morning, and is now being tracked as a tropical depression.

The system is about 550 miles southwest of Tampa, moving north at 8 mph, with peak winds of 35 mph.

The depression is forecast to make a more northeasterly turn, in the general direction of the Florida Gulf Coast.  The forecast cone of possible movement focuses on a zone from the Forgotten Coast to the northern Nature Coast of Florida as possible landfall locations as Tropical Storm Colin.

In consideration of this, a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from Indian Pass eastward to Englewood on the Florida west coast.  This means tropical storm conditions are possible in this zone within 36 hours.

Heavy rain is forecast to impact most of the Florida peninsula and the Suwannee River valley, with two to four inches possible in these regions with locally heavier amounts.  Slightly lower amounts of rainfall are projected for the tristate region.

The Big Bend coast has the potential to experience sea level increases of one to three feet above average, depending on the eventual approach of the system.

This is a developing situation.  Stay tuned to WTXL and wtxl.tv for future updates throughout the day and night.
