TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- A Florida State student was arrested in what campus police are calling one of its largest busts "in recent memory".
The 20-year-old student was arrested after more than 4 pounds of marijuana and $5,179 in cash were found in his apartment.
Police say they got a tip that Evan Kaufman was selling drugs. When officers arrived at Kaufman's apartment on Heritage Grove they said they found drug paraphernalia, marijuana, and scales in plain view and smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from the apartment.
"This is one of the largest drug seizures we have made in recent memory,” said FSU Police Chief David Perry. “We are concerned with any illicit drugs on campus. Where large quantities of drugs and cash are present, there is potential for weapons and violence. We cannot tolerate that.”
Kaufman was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a college (second-degree felony), possession of a controlled substance without a prescription (third-degree felony) and possession of drug paraphernalia (first-degree misdemeanor).
