LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is recognizing two Leon County schools as some of this year's "America's Healthiest Schools."

The schools that made this year's list are Walter T. Moore and Gilchrist Elementary.

Each of these schools met the criteria, which includes: serving healthier meals, getting students more active, offering high-quality physical education, and empowering school leaders to become healthy role models.

Both of these schools are focused on building stronger programs that will promote a healthy lifestyle for students.

Gilchrist and Moore are 2 of only 22 recognized schools in Florida.

Officials express the importance of making a healthy lifestyle fun for students.

"We want our kids to have fun with fitness and health, so they know its important to be healthy so they can learn optimally here at school every single day," said Kerri Anderson, Principal of Walter T. Moore Elementary.

The Principal of Gilchrist, Scotty Crowe, commented on behalf of their school, saying, in part: "Gilchrist Elementary is honored to be recognized as one of America's Healthiest Schools!  our school is committed to creating a healthy environment where children learn about healthy choices and a healthy diet."
