(WTXL) — Voters will soon decide which candidates make it on the ballot in November’s election. Be it local, state or federal, the deadline to register is fast approaching.
There are over 20 million registered voters between Florida and Georgia, but their primary systems are vastly different.
Since Florida is a closed primary state, only those registered with either the Florida Democratic Party or the Republican Party of Florida can vote in the Presidential Preference Primary.
Florida’s primary election is March 17, and voters must register with either party by 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 18.
Georgia has an open system, so registered voters do not have to belong to a political party. Those who want to participate in Georgia’s March 24 primaries simply need to be registered to vote by Feb. 24.
