TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A generous donation is going to go a long way to help fight hunger at Tallahassee Community College.

TCC got a $10,000 donation from Florida Blue on Monday.

The money will be used to buy food and other goods to stock Talon's Market, a free on-campus marketplace for students experiencing food insecurity.

The check was presented during the District Board of Trustees meeting in the Student Union at the main campus.

"One of the top three barriers that students faced was food insecurity, making the decision whether they are going to buy books or whether they are going to buy their groceries," said Heather Mitchell, the vice president of Institutional Advancement. "We really wanted to ease those concerns and make it easy for them."

Talon's Market not only supplies food but also some school supplies and child care products for students who are single parents.

It opened up on campus last October but shut down during the height of the pandemic earlier this year.
