TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Two 18-year-old women are behind bars after police say they assaulted a victim at a party, leaving the victim with a broken nose and a concussion.
According to court documents, a victim came to the Tallahassee Police Department on Jan. 26 to report a battery that had occurred earlier.
The victim told police that she had been in an ongoing argument with Matti Rockow, 18, and 18-year-old Mahogani Palmore over a boy. The victim said she was a party when Rockow and Palmore approached her while the victim was with two other witnesses.
Palmore then began punching the victim in the head and face, according to court documents. The victim told police that Palmore eventually got pulled away from her, so Rockow jumped in to continue attacking her head and face.
After speaking with the victim, investigators reached out to Palmore and Rockow.
During an interview, Rockow told police that "a lot of people" were arguing at the party and said the fight started when the victim began sarcastically mocking her. Rockow also denied touching the victim and instead told police that Palmore was the one who shoved her, initiating the fight.
However, during her interview, Palmore claimed the victim started the altercation by making statements that she was going to beat up both Palmore and Rockow. According to court documents, Palmore told police that Rockow was the one who initially approached the victim and she just followed. She claimed the victim shoved her first and she began fighting the victim in retaliation.
Documents say Palmore stated, "I told her if you want to fight me, you're going to have to hit me first." Police say Palmore maintained that the only reason why she fought the victim was because of the ongoing threats she had made.
On Feb. 27, police learned that the victim had suffered a broken nose and a concussion after being attacked by Palmore and Rockow. A warrant was then issued for their arrest in March.
On Thursday, Palmore and Rockow were both taken into custody and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility on Thursday. Both women are being held without bond on battery charges.
