TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Tuesday was National Voters Registration Day but registration does not stop there.

Tallahassee organizations are at the ready making sure Tallahassee is voting.

Teri Cleeland, president of Tallahassee's League of Women Voters, says National Voters Registration Day is great but for them registering voters never stops.

"Everyday is National Voters Registration Day for the league of women voters because we are always encouraging people to participate in our democracy by voting," said Cleeland.

With an election year right around the corner, Cleeland advises voters to update their registration profile and address to make sure you are eligible to vote in your area.

Another group is also putting boots on the ground to help registration. Florida's American Federation of Labor (AFL) is collaborating with constituency groups to register people within the community.

"We are engaged in a wide range of grassroot activities, we are in communities knocking on doors," explained Rich Templin, with Florida AFL. "We are on the phones in the evenings calling folks."

But in case you miss the call, the registration deadline to vote is 29 days before the next election. Templen says this kicks off the race to the 2020 primary.

"This is a big day it's important but we really see it as just the beginning of a long marathon between now and the 2020 elections," said Templin.

A race to register as many people as possible.
