TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A 20-year-old is behind bars after leading troopers on a chase from Tallahassee to Gadsden County early Monday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol says troopers spotted a grey Toyota Camry on Ocala Road and Tharpe Street around 2:39 a.m. Monday morning. Believing that the driver was under the influence, troopers tried to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle.
However, the driver didn't stop and fled northbound into Gadsden County.
Troopers say the driver, later identified as 20-year-old Marique McGriff of Tallahassee, made several U-turns, drove recklessly and sideswiped a concrete bridge barrier while leading authorities on a chase.
Eventually, troopers got the car to stop on U.S. 27 and John Yawn Place in Gadsden County. McGriff and his 17-year-old passenger were both taken into custody.
FHP reports a stolen handgun was also found inside the car. McGriff was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a minor, fleeing and eluding, tampering with evidence, resisting officers, and disobeying a police officer.
He remains in Gadsden County Jail on a $6,000 bond.
The Florida Highway patrol was assisted by the Leon County Sheriff Office, Gadsden County Sheriff Office, and the Havana Police Department.
