TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Kids in Tallahassee got a chance to learn a new sport Monday, and it's all part of the Summer Playground Program.
The Capital City Country Club taught 20 kids participating in the program all about golf. The goal: To get young people interested in the sport.
Volunteer golfers showed kids how to putt, swing and drive. This is the third year that some of those participants got to learn about golf.
For most of the kids, it was their first time picking up a golf club.
"It's been great," said Randy Briley, a volunteer with the program. "I grew up on this course when I was 10 years old. 60 years ago, this was what I was doing and someone was helping me and it's really nice to help people who otherwise wouldn't be out here."
The Summer Playground Program is for kids age 5 to 16, the youngest have to have completed kindergarten.
