Suspect in Sept. 20 deadly shooting indicted on first-degree murder charges

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A Leon County Grand Jury indicted 21-year-old Ronald Brown, Jr. on a first-degree murder charge following a deadly September 20 shooting in the 1700 block of Joe Louis Street.

The charges are as follows:

  • County 1: On or about September 20, 2020, did unlawfully kill a human being, Dimitri Jones, by shooting him with a firearm, which the defendant actually possessed and discharged causing great bodily harm or death, said killing being perpetrated from or with a premeditated design or intent to effect the death of Dimitri Jones.
  • Count 2: On or about September 20, 2020, did unlawfully and wantonly or maliciously shoot a firearm at, within, or into a vehicle occupied by Adrianna Tamia Hartsfield and/or Dimitri Jones.

The investigation revealed the shooting on Sept. 20, which resulted in an unarmed adult male's death, occurred after a verbal altercation.

Based on statements from multiple witnesses and evidence collected at the scene, investigators identified 21-year-old Ronald Brown Jr. as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Following a thorough investigation, the Tallahassee Police Department, Brown turned himself in on Tuesday, Sept. 22, and was charged with homicide and shooting into a conveyance.
