An 11th-grade student was arrested at Leon High School Wednesday morning after a gun was found on campus.
Leon County Schools spokesman Chris Petley confirmed that the student was also suspended. The school's resource officer worked the case, Petley said.
At least four incidents involving weapons have occurred at Leon County high schools since the beginning of the school year.
To address and improve school safety, LCS announced new safety initiativesback in December of 2022. Those initiatives included:
- LCS pup patrol
- Weapons detecting Patrol Dog will search classrooms at random.
- Anonymous alert program
- Each middle school and high school will have an alert program.
- Handheld magnotrometers
- In partnership with Pup Patrol, handheld wanding will be enacted by safety staff
