TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Due to COVID-19, Special Olympians will not get a chance to compete in their annual Summer Games.

Instead, Special Olympics Florida is celebrating their athletes with a spirit week.

Ashley Harrell started competing in Thomasville, but moved to Tallahassee to participate in even more events.

She competes in tennis, cheerleading, golf, paddle board, swimming and gymnastics, and she has a message for anybody who's considered being a Special Olympian.

"You'll have a lot of fun," said Harrell. "Just try it one time and you'll be hooked. It takes one time for anybody. It could be an athlete, coach and I've had people tell me, 'I'm hooked.'"

Spirit week wraps up on Saturday with a virtual dance party.
