TALLAHASSEE, Fla.(WTXL) — A second suspect is facing attempted first degree murder charges in connection to a home invasion robbery that ended in a shooting onBalkin Road back in June of 2019.
The Leon County Sheriff's office says the shooting happened on June 25 at a home in the Cascades Trailer Park on Balkin Road.
One of the victims told deputies they were outside of the home when two men approached them at gunpoint and forced them into the home. One of the victims managed to run out of the residence unharmed, while the other was shot by one of the suspects.
Deputies say the victim who was shot sustained injuries that required several surgeries to save his life.
During the investigation, one of the suspects was identified as 17-year-old Jalynn Alvarez. He was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
Court documents note that Alvarez has a prior history with the Department of Juvenile Justice including charges of resisting an officer and carrying a concealed weapon.
After further investigation, the state attorney's office ordered that Alvarez be transferred into the Leon County Detention Facility.
Documents say Alvarez is being charged with attempted first degree murder and home invasion robbery with firearm.
After Alvarez was arrested authorities learned that he had a step-brother, 21-year-old Kevin Times, who was staying at the same home.
Investigators say due to Alvarez and Times being related and Times matching the height and build of the second suspect, a photo line-up was conducted.
During the investigation, Times was immediately identified as the suspect in the line-up.
Based on the evidence, Times was arrested and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility.
As of Thursday, he is being held in jail without bond on attempted first degree murder and home invasion robbery.
