Teen facing adult charges for home invasion, shooting on Balkin Road

Deputies say one of the suspects is still at large

LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — A 17-year-old is facing adult charges for attempted first degree murder in connection to a home invasion robbery that ended in a shooting on Balkin Road last month.

The Leon County Sheriff's office says the shooting happened on June 25 at a home in the Cascades Trailer Park on Balkin Road.

One of the victims told deputies they were outside of the home when two men approached them at gunpoint and forced them into the home. One of the victims managed to run out of the residence unharmed, while the other was shot by one of the suspects.

Deputies say the victim who was shot sustained injuries that required several surgeries to save his life.

During the investigation, one of the suspects was identified as 17-year-old Jalynn Alvarez. He was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

Court documents note that Alvarez has a prior history with the Department of Juvenile Justice including charges of resisting an officer and carrying a concealed weapon.

After further investigation, the state attorney's office ordered that Alvarez be transferred into the Leon County Detention Facility.

Documents say Alvarez is being charged with attempted first degree murder and home invasion robbery with firearm.

As of Thursday, Alvarez is being held in jail without bond.

The victim, 35-year-old Terrell Harley, is in critical condition at a local hospital.

One of the victims told deputies they were outside of the home when two African-American men approached them at gunpoint and forced them into the home. One of the victims managed to run out of the residence unharmed, while the other was shot by one of the suspects.

They say they have identified one of the suspects involved in the incident as a 17-year-old boy. He was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

Detectives are still searching the second suspect in this investigation.

The Leon County Sheriff's office is investigating an overnight shooting that sent one victim to the hospital.

A spokesperson with the sheriff's office confirmed that the shooting happened at a home in the Cascades Trailer Park on Balkin Road.

They say the incident happened around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning and ended with the victim getting shot. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

One of the suspects is described as being between 5'3 - 5'4 and weighs 130 pounds with shoulder length dreadlocks. The other suspect is described as being between 5'9 - 5'10.
