TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — If you've been to Cascades Park lately, then you know that it looks different.
Development is quickly picking up with the Cascades Project.
This is the year that the Cascades Project all comes together. Phase 1 is expected to wrap up later this year.
Just behind the Cascades Park Amphitheater and fountain, you can see and hear workers hammering away, working on a project that promises a hotel, places to live, places to shop, even more eating and nightlife.
More. That's what the Cascades Project is promising downtown Tallahassee.
The first phase includes an AC Marriott hotel. Developers say the construction is on schedule and flowing smoothly.
Not only is the rooftop bar keeping Tallahassee up to date with the latest trends, but it'll even be owned by the same local company that own Madison Social.
Phase 2 will answer the cries of many people who work downtown: More housing.
There are one, two, and three bedroom apartments in the works plus condos and townhomes, answering the Downtown Improvement Authority's plans to make the area a place that's thriving even after the workday.
For some living nearby, they're concerned that more development means more noise and traffic coming into the neighborhood. Before construction began, developers met with the community and the city to determine guidelines.
Phase 2 involves the apartments. The buildings will be up by the end of the year, but leasing won't start until 2021.
