MADISON COUNTY, Fl (WTXL) - — Two teenagers are in the hospital with serious injuries after an ATV accident in Madison County.
It happened just after 3:30pm near Black Lake Road and State Road 53.
Florida Highway Patrol said a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were riding in an ATV on a dirt path when an SUV turned onto the road. Investigators say the driver tried turning away when he noticed the teens were on his side but they were going too fast to avoid crashing. The 16-year-old flew off the ATV and the SUV stopped in the road. Troopers said the speed and the fact that the ATV was on the wrong side of the road caused the crash.
The 14-year-old has serious injuries. At last check, 16-year-old is still in critical condition. The driver of the SUV, Earl Delong, is expected to be okay.
