TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A new opponent is hoping to un-seat Leon County Superintendent Rocky Hanna.

Pam Hightower, the former Title I director of Leon County Schools, filed her paperwork and registered as a Democrat.

Hanna says Hightower let him know last Friday that she would be running against him. He says he's ready for the challenge.

"We'll see," Hanna said. "I'm proud of the record I've established, and look forward to the coming months of having those discussions about the wonderful things we've established over the past three years. I'd like to continue that work. I wish Dr. Hightower the best of luck in the adventure of being a candidate."

The deadline to enter the superintendent's race is June 12 at noon.

So far, Hanna and Hightower are the only two running for the position.

They're planning to face-off in the Nov. 3 general election.
