VALDOSTA, Ga. — Police have opened a homicide investigation after a man was found dead inside a crashed car in Valdosta early Saturday morning.

On Saturday, at about 2:21 a.m., the Valdosta Police Department responded to the 600 block of East Moore Street in reference to residents calling in reports of gunshots. At the same time, officers were called to the 300 block of East Moore Street in reference to a single car crash.

When officers arrived at the car crash, they discovered a small car had crashed into a power pole and power transformer box. Officers found the victim, Xzavier Haggins, dead inside the vehicle, along with evidence that he may have been shot.

Detectives and crime scene personnel then responded to the scene and began an investigation. While looking in the area, evidence was found in the 600 block of East Moore Street that a shooting indeed happened in that area.

Police say the vehicle has been towed to the Valdosta Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory so it can be processed for evidence.

An autopsy was completed on Haggins on Monday. His death was ruled a homicide.

At this time the police department is not releasing any specifics of the case, due to the on-going investigation. If anyone has any information on this case, please contact the Investigations Bureau at 229-293-3145.
