TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Defense attorneys poked holes in the testimony of key witness Luis Rivera, in the Dan Markel murder trial on Wednesday.
All while the state says he's clear on who shot Markel and who paid them the money.
Luis Rivera previously accepted a guilty plea of second degree murder, for his role in the FSU law professor's death.
As a part of that plea, he had to testify against his longtime friend Sigfredo Garcia and the mother of Garcia's children, Katherine Magbanua.
In their opening statements, both defense attorneys said that Luis Rivera told inconsistent stories during every interview.
When they got the chance to question Rivera, they didn't waste a moment before questioning his credibility.
From his claims of illiteracy to his recollection of what led to Dan Markel's death.
Rivera spent about six hours testifying against his best friend, Sigfredo Garcia and Garcia's on-again, off-again girlfriend Katherine Magbanua.
Rivera says Garcia fired the two shots that killed Dan Markel. Rivera's own contribution to the murder, driving the getaway car.
We also heard from the one acquaintance that Garcia and Rivera made in Tallahassee, their drug dealer.
He said he was suspicious of the two but didn't think much about it.
