TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Highlighting businesses that have had a tough year with the pandemic is what the Love Your Local campaign aims to do.

For many, COVID-19 is still impacting their ability to make money.

Some are dealing with a tough reality that they might not make it through the holidays.

With over 100 local shops participating, the Office of Economic Vitality is looking to keep more dollars in the community.

The campaign is not new, just reinvented. It was launched in 2018 after the Hot Yoga shooting to promote business in that area.

But with shops closing in the Big Bend, it's now open countywide.

OEV says this is another part of their economic relief effort after the economy took at major hit with COVID-19.

"This has been a pretty rough year for our small businesses so we want to just encourage our residents to support local businesses whether that's shopping or eating whatever it may be please just support our local businesses," Kianna Brown said.

Brown is the coordinator of business and outreach at the Office of Economic Vitality. She said that this is just the latest effort to help local businesses.

The City of Tallahassee and the OEV just received a Community of Excellence award for providing $1 million in COVID-19 economic relief to businesses in need of support.

The Love Local campaign starts on Small Business Saturday and will continue throughout the holidays.
