TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The senior pastor at a Tallahassee Methodist Church says she is grieving over Tuesday's decision to keep the ban on same-sex marriage and ordination of gay and lesbian clergy.
Pastor Kandace Brooks of Saint Paul's Methodist Church says the delegates' vote to stick with the traditional plan is disappointing as she was hoping to see progressive changes.
For Pastor Brooks the decision does not change her welcoming and loving attitude toward every member of the LGBTQ community.
"Personally I'm heartbroken. I hurt for my friends who are part of the LBGTQ community. I hurt for our church. We can't join in that wide, open inclusivity of our LGBTQ community," said Pastor Brooks. "They are wonderful folks and I just want with all my heart to be able to embrace them fully."
Pastor Brooks says Tallahassee is made up a large and diverse community and she is not giving up hope that the United Methodist Church will one day be more inclusive of all groups.
