TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Tuesday is National Voter Registration Day and in Leon County the spotlight is on a local high school student's push for voter registration in public schools.

As the 2019-2020 Student District Advisory Council Chair, Madeline Feiock proposed designating a day to register students to vote.

Student Government Associations and the Florida Association of Student Councils approved that proposal earlier this year. Now, she is working with Leon County Schools and Supervisor of Elections.

They announced their Districtwide High School Voter Registration Drive on Tuesday and are planning a bunch of registration drives in January.

Feiok says her goal is to expanding accessibility and encourage voter participation among her fellow students.

It's incredible that I took something as small as a resolution in my SGA class and have turned it into a resolution that is going to be voted on by the school board in Leon County Schools," said Feiok.

A drive will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at each Leon County High School for all eligible students to pre-register or register to vote ahead of the registration deadline for the Presidential Preference Primary.
